living and doing great at school (without dying)
The other day someone asked how do I have time to read with school and everything, and I think it's a very good topic, so I'll try to talk about it.
Feeling down in school is totally normal, I had a lot of exams a couple of weeks ago and I was very tired and felt overwhelmed, but you can do really nothing about you have to keep going and do the better you can.
Responding to the question, I have to admit I don't read as much as I would like to. Most of schools assignments are related to writing and reading so after finishing, you really don't want to open a book and read again, the easiest thing to do after a long day is probably open tiktok and just scroll without thinking, and thinking of this I realised my main problem is organisation and screen time. So I'll be putting ideas here to try to be more productive and the tips that work better on me as a 10/10 student :)
1. Notebooks. I think the best way of organising is probably an agenda, I am not the best person to say this, because I tried multiple times to use an agenda and never ended one, but it's a discipline thing and if you try it will end up coming naturally. To use an agenda I will recommend you:
-In your daily planner (the day you are in) write what you do in school everyday like this -->Period 1/ Subject name/ Resume what we did in class/Homework. Example:
MONDAY
Period 1/ Biology/ Studied anatomy/ Exercises 18,20
Period 2/ English/ Studied XV literature/ No homework
Period 3/ History/ Project about romanticism/ Finish project
Period 4/ Spanish/ Wrote an essay/ Study for exam
Notes: I have Spanish exam this Friday, the project is for next week
Do this with all the subjects, this will help you had a general idea what you do everyday and don't forget homework.
-In your monthly planner write all your projects and exams, so you don't forget them and try to start studying to exams at leats two days before the test, im used to start the day before, but even if you work well under pressure having more time to prepare will definitely give you better results.
I'll keep talking about notebooks a bit more, I would recommend you to have a notebook for writing your thoughts, days and feelings. Try to write a diary! This would help you in your personal life and also in school, maybe you get to know yourself better!
2. The curve of attention. Let's say that when you start studying your attention is 50%, at mid session it's 100% and then your attention starts going down. Based on this, organise your study sessions. First do things that you consider medium difficult, then the ones that you consider the most difficult and finally the easiest assignments, in that order.
3. Self-care is the most important part of the process. Your health always has to be your priority, if you are feeling really tired give yourself time to relax, even if you study for hours but you are feeling down you won't learn nothing, is better to take a breath and keep going after. Sleep well, eat well and have time for doing plans and going outside, locking on your room can't be an option.4. Reduce your screen time. One of the main reasons why we feel like we have no time is because we spend more time with our phones than we thought. Take a look at your screen time and think about how many things you could have done with that time. Try putting yourself a daily limit! Watching our phones as I said at the start of the entry is what we do to relax ourselves but there are a lot of other things that you can do instead, read a book, have a walk, talk with your friends or do literally anything!
5. Study with friends. Doing homework or projects with friends will make it a lot easier and after you finish you could relax together.
6. I already said this but study with time, don't do everything at last minute, study days before exams and try having all your assignments done at least two days before the delivery day.
7. Take pretty notes. Try using colours or drawings in your notes, is a lot easy to study from good and organised notes than messy ones.
8. Good ambience. Keep the space where you study clean and organised for better concentration, keep distractions away for you and if you want you can listen to music to relax while you work.
9. Study methods and app. There are lots of study methods that you can check on the internet like the pommodore method, try some and decide which one is better for you! I also would recommend using different apps like "NOTION" that can be really useful (seriously try using notion)
10. Girly motivation. Maybe this is a personal thing but I feel so motivated after watching YouTube videos of girls studying and doing cool stuff! My favourites are millie liao (a Yale student), Kate Broke and if you are a spanish speaker you might like Carolette Martin.
Try using this this tips during a week and see if any of them are useful to you! <3
